KUMASI GUTTERS CHOCKED WITH TOILET; KMA FAILURE ON TACKLING SANITATION AND DECONGESTION ISSUES
7th March, 2019..12:47am
Kumasi gutters chocked with toilet due to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) failure on tackling sanitation and decongestion issues which is a threat to public health.
The main motive of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's government when signed to office on 7th January, 2017 is to make Ghana-Accra, the cleanest city in West African.
A media friend of mine, Mr. Ben Barnes write, "some of us beg to ask whether Kumasi is not part of government sanitation agenda where KMA is failing to live up to that task".
Ashanti region, Kumasi, precisely is vigorously working assiduously toward curbing sanitation challenges spending million of cedis but in recent times KMA have gave up the fight in identifying a liable medium of educating the public on the need to be abreast with KMA's by-laws on sanitation and decongestion living the hopes of the public on a sky rocketing.
Tackling or fighting sanitation in Kumasi (The Garden City) by the KMA led by the metropolitan chief executive, Mayor Osei Assibey Antwi turned nine-day wander. It seems to be time wasting and resources. For a decades now the state of sanitation and decongestion in Kumasi has not been improved due to lack of proper supervision and the unfortunate taskforce used by the authorities.
The authorities spend whopping sum of monies to decongest the city yet, the more they tried, the more they failed causing financial lost to KMA.
Toilet facilities built all over the city, including Asafo-market,
Achaemfour market buildings etc. had connected their pipes directly into the gutters discharging waste into it in daylight.
Drivers and traders at the area complained bitterly about the poor sanitation situation at hand, said it has been reported to the city authorities but they failed to respond to their call.
"We are even afraid, our live is not safe in case of likable outbreak of disease because the place stings". Some traders lamented and appealed to the city authorities to act swiftly to remove the toilet facility from the place entirely or put in place a proper measure to avoid disaster.
