TRADERS THREATEN TO RAISE RED BAND AT BANTAMA MARKET
Confused Traders at Bantama Market at a press conference held on 17th January, 2019, chaired by Mr. Kwaku Agyemang Duah has threatened to embark on a massive demonstration to display their displeasure over KMA unlawful attempt to demolish the Bantama Market without proper arrangement.
According to Mr. Agyemang, a meeting was held on 20th December, 2018, chaired by Mr David Ameyaw, the Metro Engineer of KMA to discuss and find a proper way out over a date given to them for the demolishment of the Bantama Market for redevelopment which was communicated to them verbally that, the MARKET STORES will be demolished
for reconstruction from 14th January 2019 without formal writing document detailing the project.
According to KMA, traders will be paying Ghc 60.000 cedis for each store.
This did not go down well with the traders because
(1) The timing is too short.
(2) The cost of each store is too high as compared to
(i)Asawasi MARKET, where each store cost Ghc8,000
(ii) Atonsu MARKEt, each store cost Ghc20,000
(iii) Tafo MARKET, each store cost Ghc20,000 etc.
3. There has not been any formal agreement between the store owners and KMA.
These led to the traders wearing red band to express their displeasure over the decision taken by KMA pleading that the authorities should official document all the details to them to agree on before the project take place.
The traders therefore threaten to embark on a massive demonstration if the authorities of the city turn no ear to their pre-plead to put proper measure in place before the commencement of the project.
